No-Sew Crochet Little Googly Eyed Monster Tutorial

This no-sew crochet monster is a ball of fun with big googly eyes that wobble and look around as if it has a mind of its own. Materials Needed

  • Size 6 Chenille yarn (Loops and Threads Chanel Home Slim)
  • Size 4 Chenille yarn (Loops and Threads)
  • Size 4 yarn (for the mouth)
  • 5 mm crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Sewing needle
  • Stitch marker (optional)
  • Googly eyes (12)
  • Stuffing

Abbreviations

  • SC: Single crochet
  • DC: Double crochet
  • inc: Increase (SC in the same stitch)
  • dec: Decrease (SC together with the next stitch)
  • st: Stitch
  • ch: Chain

Body Construction

Starting the Body

  • Using size 4 yarn, create a magic ring.
  • Chain 1 and SC 6 times into the ring.
  • Close the ring with a secure knot.

Round 1

Skip the first stitch.

  • Increase in the next stitch.
  • Single crochet 3 in the next stitch, then attach a googly eye.
  • Skip the next stitch, single crochet 3 in the following stitch, and attach the second googly eye.
  • Skip the next stitch and single crochet 3 in the following stitch.
  • Repeat from the beginning of this round until you have 12 stitches.
  • Close the round with a single crochet.

Round 2

Increase, then single crochet. Repeat 6 times. Close the round with a single crochet.

For Round 3

  • Single crochet in each stitch around. Close the round with a single crochet.

Round 4 (Legs)

  1. Single crochet 5 (or 6 for even spacing).
  2. Create a bobble by double crocheting, then 5 incomplete double crochets, pull through all 6 loops, and single crochet 5.
  3. Repeat from the beginning of this round until you have 6 bobbles.
  4. Close the round with a single crochet.

Round 5

Single crochet in each stitch around. Close the round with a single crochet.

For Round 6 (Legs)

  1. Single crochet 7 (or 8 for even spacing).
  2. Create a bobble (as in Round 4), then single crochet 4.
  3. Make another bobble on top of the previous one.
  4. Single crochet in the remaining stitches.
  5. Close the round with a single crochet.

Round 7

  • Decrease, then single crochet. Repeat 6 times. Close the round with a single crochet.

Stuffing

  • Fill the monster with stuffing through the opening at the bottom.

Closing

  • Decrease 6 times.
  • Slip stitch, chain 1, and fasten off.
  • Sew the bottom opening closed with a needle and thread.

Crafting the Mouth

  • Thread your needle with size 4 black yarn.
  • Insert the needle into the monster’s face center and come out two stitches away.
  • Form the desired mouth shape using a series of loops across the face.
  • Secure the yarn with a knot and weave in the end.

Adding Teeth

  • Thread your needle with white yarn.
  • Insert into the center of the mouth.
  • Make 4 loops, pulling tight to form the teeth.
  • Secure the yarn with a knot and weave in the end.
