  • Hook: 2.5 mm

  • ch: Chain
  • dc: Double crochet
  • sc: Single crochet
  • sl st: Slip stitch

Hat Pattern

Crown of the Hat

Round 1:

  1. Start with a slip knot.
  2. Make 4 chains (ch).
  3. Insert the hook into the first ch to form a ring with a slip stitch (sl st).
  4. Within the ring, make 16 double crochets (dc).
  5. Finish with a sl st into the top of the first dc.

Round 2:

  1. Begin with 4 ch (counts as a dc and ch 1 space).
  2. Alternate between making 1 dc and 1 ch in each dc from the previous round.
  3. At the end, sl st into the 3rd ch of the beginning 4 ch.

Round 3:

  1. Start with 3 ch (acts as a dc).
  2. Make another dc in the same st.
  3. Ch 1, skip next ch 1 sp, and make 2 dc in the next dc from previous round.
  4. Continue this pattern across, ending the round with a sl st in the 3rd ch of starting ch.

Round 4:

  1. Start with 3 ch (acts as a dc).
  2. Make 1 dc into next dc of the previous round.
  3. Ch 2, and alternate with 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc of previous round.
  4. Continue the sequence till the end, then sl st into the 3rd ch of starting ch.

Round 5:

  1. Start with 3 ch as a dc.
  2. Increase the number of dc in this round by making another dc in the same st, then making 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc.
  3. Continue with ch 2, repeat the group pattern (2 dc into first st, 1 dc into the next st) till end, then finish with a sl st.

Round 6:

  1. Start with 3 ch as a dc.
  2. Increase by adding another dc in the same st and 1 dc in each of the next 3 dc.
  3. Continue with ch 2 after each group.

Round 7:

  1. Start the same way, increasing 1 more stitch to have a pattern of 2 dc in the first st, followed by 1 dc each in the next 4 st. Repeat with ch

Diameter: Upon reaching a diameter of 6.5 inches, you will stop increasing stitches.

Body of the Hat

Round 8 and onwards:

  1. Start with 3 ch.
  2. Make 2 dc in the first st, then 1 dc in the next 3 st, skip the last st of each group.
  3. Make 2 ch, and repeat until you’ve achieved the desired height of the hat body by repeating this round.

Brim of the Hat

First Brim Round:

  1. Make 1 ch, then sc in the same st and in each of next 3 dc.
  2. Make 2 sc in each ch 2 sp.
  3. Repeat around, finishing with a sl st.

Second Brim Round:

  1. Start with 2 ch, make half double crochet (hdc) in second st and in each sc around.
  2. Finish the round with a sl st.

Third Brim Round:

  1. Begin with 3 ch, skip next hdc, and make 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in the next st (creating a V-stitch).
  2. Skip next st, dc in the following st, skip one, and repeat V-stitch pattern.

Fourth Brim Round:

  1. With 3 ch, make 1 dc and then 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc into the ch 2 sp from previous round.
  2. Skip 2 st, dc in next dc, repeat V-stitch pattern in each ch 2 sp.

Continue Adding V-Stitch Rounds:

  • Repeat the V-stitch round pattern for the desired brim width.

Final Brim Round:
