Making The Crochet Rooster Amigurumi

Materials

  • Amigurumi Maxi yarn – 1 ball in each color:
    • #3528
    • #4131
    • #4095
    • #1289
    • #8001
  • Black yarn scraps
  • Crochet hook size E-4
  • Polyester stuffing
  • Black safety eyes, 16 mm

Stitch Glossary and Abbreviations

  • st – stitch
  • mk – make
  • sk – skip
  • ch – chain
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • sc – single crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • inc – increase
  • dec – decrease
  • rnd – round
  • eor – end of row/rnd
  • BLO – back loop only
  • FLO – front loop only
  • Shell st – (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the same base st
  • Invisible fasten off – To invisibly finish a piece

Step-by-step Instructions

Comb (Make 3)

Use color #3528.

  1. 6 sc inside of magic ring.
  2. 6 sc.
  3. 1 sc, 1 inc = 9 sc.
  4. 9 sc.
  5. Invisible fasten off. Repeat steps 1 to 4 two more times, and do not cut the yarn of the third piece.

Join the pieces:

  1. 5 sc into second piece’s edge, 9 sc into the first piece’s edge, 4 sc into the second piece’s edge, 9 sc into the third piece’s edge = 27 sc.
  2. (2 sc, 1 dec) 6x, 3 sc = 21 sc.
  3. 1 sc, 1 dec = 14 sc.
  4. 14 sc.
  5. 7 dec = 7 sc. Fasten off with a tail. Insert stuffing.

Wings (Make 2)

Use color #4131.

  1. 6 sc inside of magic ring.
  2. 1 sc, 1 inc = 9 sc.
  3. 2 sc, 1 inc = 12 sc.
  4. 3 sc, 1 inc = 15 sc.
  5. & 6 = 15 sc. Fasten off, make another part and do not cut yarn.

Join the parts:

  1. 15 sc into first part’s edge, 15 sc into the second part’s edge = 30 sc.
  2. 3 sc, 1 dec = 24 sc.
  3. 1 sc, 1 dec = 16 sc. Fasten off with a tail.

Tail Feathers (Make 3)

Use color #4095.

  1. 5 sc inside of magic ring.
  2. 5 sc.
  3. (1 sc, 1 inc) 2x, 1 sc = 7 sc.
    • 8 = 7 sc. Fasten off with a tail.

Make 2 more feathers with color #4131.

Foot (Make 2)

  • 6 sc inside of magic ring.
  • 1 sc, 1 inc = 9 sc.
  • 9 sc.
  • 1 sc, 1 dec = 6 sc.
  • & 6 – 6 sc. Fasten off.

Crochet Rooster 2

Body & Head

Start with color #4095

  1. 6 sc inside of the magic ring.
  2. 6 inc = 12 sc.
  3. 1 sc, 1 inc = 18 sc.
  4. 2 sc, 1 inc = 24 sc.
  5. 3 sc, 1 inc = 30 sc.
  6. 4 sc, 1 inc = 36 sc.
      1. Each round 36 sc.
  7. 4 sc, 1 dec = 30 sc.
  8. 3 sc, 1 dec = 24 sc.
  9. 2 sc, 1 dec = 18 sc.
  10. 18 sc.

Switch to color #4131
16. 18 sc.

  1. (BLO) 18 sc.
      1. Each round 18 sc.
  2. 1 sc, 1 dec = 12 sc. (Insert stuffing)
  3. 6 dec = 6 sc. Fasten off in magic loop method. (Insert tapestry needle into front loops of remaining sts and pull tight to close hole).

Join yarn into FL or Rnd 17 and make:

  • *1 Shell st, sk 1 base st, 1 sc* 6x.

Eyes (Make 2)

Use color #8001.

  1. 6 sc into magic ring. Do not close completely.
  2. 1 sc, 1 inc = 9 sc. (Insert safety eye into magic ring and lock them).
  3. 9 sc.
  4. 1 sc, 1 dec = 6 sc. (Insert some stuffing).

Loose Skin (Make 2)

Use color #3528.

  1. Ch 6. Work around foundation chain.
    • sk 1 chain, 1 inc, 3 dc, 3 dc in the last chain, (on the other side) 3 dc, 1 inc = 13 sts. Fasten off.

Beak

Use color #1289.

  1. 5 sc inside of magic ring.
  2. 5 sc.
  3. 5 inc = 10 sc.
  4. 4 sc, 1 inc = 12 sc. Fasten off in magic loop method. (Insert tapestry needle into front loops of remaining sts and pull tight to close hole). Leave a tail for sewing.

Toes

Make 2 more toes and do not cut yarn of the last one.

Join toes:
7. 3 sc in the second toe, 6 sc in the first toe, 3 sc in the second toe, 6 sc in the third toe = 18 sc.

  1. 18 sc.
  2. 1 sc, 1 dec = 12 sc.
  3. 6 sc, ch 5, sk 5 base sts, 1 sc = 12 sc.
  4. 12 sc. (Insert stuffing into toes).
  5. 2 sc, 1 dec = 9 sc.
  6. 9 sc.
  7. 1 sc, 1 dec = 6 sc.
  8. 6 sc. (Insert stuffing until completely full).
  9. 3 dec = 3 sc. Fasten off in magic loop method. (Insert tapestry needle into front loops of remaining sts and pull tight to close hole).

Legs (Make 2)

Use color #1289.

  • Join yarn into any open space of 10 chains of foot.
  1. & 2. 12 sc.
  2. 1 sc, 1 dec = 8 sc.
      1. Each round 8 sc. Fasten off with a tail. (Insert stuffing).

Assembly and Finishing

  • Sew eyes onto head between rnds 22 & 24, 1 sc apart.
  • Use black yarn to embroider eyebrows with 2 sts above eyes as shown in the picture.
  • Sew loose skin below eyes.
  • Flat beak and sew below eyes above loose skin.
  • Sew comb onto head.
  • Flat wings and sew on sides into rnd 14 of body.
  • Sew tail feathers starting at rnd 7 of body, alternating colors.
  • Sew legs between rnds 2 & 5 of body.
