Free Crochet Koala Keychain Amigurumi Pattern

We’ve designed this crochet koala keychain pattern to be as simple as possible. You’ll follow a few basic steps to create the head, ears, eyes, and nose. Then, you’ll stitch them all together and attach a keychain. In no time at all, you’ll have your very own koala keychain to show off or gift to your friends.

Materials Needed:

  • 3 mm crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Stitch markers and needle pins
  • Stuffing
  • Wire pet brush (for fluffing the fur)
  • Ruler or tape measure
  • Keyring or keychain
  • 8 ply yarn in grey, black, white, and pink

Koala Keychain 2

Koala Head:

  1. Magic Circle with 6 SC (single crochet) in grey yarn.
  2. Round 2: 6 increases (12 stitches)
  3. Round 3: 3 SC, 3 increases repeat twice (18 stitches)
  4. Round 4: 1 SC, 1 increase, 2 SC, 1 increase repeat 5 times, finish with 1 SC (24 stitches)
  5. Round 5: 3 SC, 1 increase repeat 6 times (30 stitches)
  6. Round 6: 2 SC, 1 increase, 4 SC, 1 increase repeat 5 times, finish with 2 SC (36 stitches)
  7. Rounds 7-13: 36 SC
  8. Round 14: 5 SC, 1 increase repeat 6 times (42 stitches)
  9. Round 15: 3 SC, 1 increase, 6 SC, 1 increase repeat 5 times, finish with 3 SC (48 stitches)
  10. Round 16: 7 SC, 1 increase repeat 6 times (54 stitches)
  11. Round 17: 54 SC
  12. Round 18: 7 SC, 1 decrease repeat 6 times (48 stitches)
  13. Round 19: 3 SC, 1 decrease, 6 SC, 1 decrease repeat 5 times, finish with 3 SC (42 stitches)
  14. Round 20: 5 SC, 1 decrease repeat 6 times (36 stitches)
  15. Round 21: 2 SC, 1 decrease, 4 SC, 1 decrease repeat 5 times, finish with 2 SC (30 stitches)
  16. Round 22: 3 SC, 1 decrease repeat 6 times (24 stitches) – Stuff the head here.
  17. Round 23: 1 SC, 1 decrease, 2 SC, 1 decrease repeat 5 times, finish with 1 SC (18 stitches)
  18. Round 24: 1 SC, 1 decrease repeat 6 times (12 stitches)
  19. Round 25: 6 decreases. Finish off, weave in end.

Ears (Make 2 in Grey):

  1. Magic circle with 6 SC.
  2. Round 2: 6 increases (12 stitches)
  3. Round 3: 3 SC, 3 increases repeat twice (18 stitches)
  4. Round 4: 1 SC, 1 increase, 2 SC, 1 increase repeat 5 times, finish with 1 SC (24 stitches)
  5. Round 5: 24 SC
  6. Round 6: 3 SC, 1 increase repeat 6 times (30 stitches)
  7. Rounds 7-9: 30 SC. Finish off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Inner Ears (Make 2 in Pink):

  1. Magic circle with 6 SC.
  2. Round 2: 6 increases (12 stitches)
  3. Round 3: 1 SC, 1 increase repeat 6 times (18 stitches)
  4. Rounds 4-5: 18 SC. Finish off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Eyes (Make 2 in White):

  1. Magic circle with 6 SC.
  2. Round 2: 6 increases (12 stitches)
  3. Round 3: 3 SC, 3 half-double crochet increases, 3 SC, 3 increases (18 stitches)

Pupils (Make 2 in Black):

  1. Magic circle with 6 SC.
  2. Round 2: 2 SC, 1 increase repeat twice (8 stitches). Finish off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Nose (In Black):

  1. Magic circle with 6 SC.
  2. Round 2: 6 increases (12 stitches)
  3. Round 3: 1 SC, 1 increase, 2 SC, 1 half-double crochet, 1 double crochet in the next stitch, 1 double crochet, 1 half-double crochet both in the same stitch, then 1 half-double crochet, 2 SC, 1 increase, finish with 1 SC (16 stitches)
  4. Round 4: 16 SC. Finish off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Koala Keychain 1

Assembly:

  • Add a little white yarn to the pupils and top of the nose for shine.
  • Sew the pupils onto the eyes, ensuring the HDC increases are at the bottom.
  • Position and sew the eyes and nose onto the head.
  • Sew the pink inner ears to the grey outer ears.
  • Attach ears to the head.
  • Add fur to the ears as described.
  • Attach the keychain or keyring.

Add any finishing touches as desired, such as brushing the fur to fluff it up.
