Materials Needed

  • Tan and green (or desired color) yarn.
  • 16 mm safety eyes.
  • Scissors.
  • Polyfill stuffing.
  • Crochet hook (4.25 mm, G hook).
  • Stitch markers.
  • Tapestry needles.
  • Optional: Plastic sticks from polyfill for stuffing.

Pattern Steps

Head and Body

  1. Round 1: Make a magic ring or chain 2 and work 8 single crochets into the first chain.
  2. Round 2: Single crochet increase (sc inc) in each stitch around (16 stitches).
  3. Round 3: (Sc inc, sc in next stitch) repeat all the way around (24 stitches).
  4. Round 4: Start with 2 single crochets, place a stitch marker on the first stitch and then crochet in the next stitch. Here’s the sequence: (sc inc x2, sc in next 4 stitches). Repeat the sequence until the end, then end with sc inc x2, sc in last 2 stitches.
  5. Round 5: Sc in first 3 stitches, place a stitch marker on the first stitch, then begin the sequence: (sc inc, sc in the next 6 stitches) repeat 3 times. End the round with sc inc x2, sc in last 3 stitches.
  6. Rounds 6-16: Sc in each stitch around.

Eye Placement

  1. Count 5 stitches from the stitch marker and then go up 7 rounds. Place a pin to mark the middle point and then count 4 stitches in either direction for the eyes. Secure safety eyes.

Decreases for Shaping

  1. Round 17: Sc in first 3 stitches, sc dec twice, sc in the next 6 stitches, repeat the sequence 3 times, end with sc dec twice, sc in last 3 stitches.
  2. Round 18: Sc in first 2 stitches, place a stitch marker, start the sequence: (sc dec x2, sc in next 4 stitches) repeat 3 times, end with sc dec x2 and sc in the last 2 stitches.

Body Continuation

  6. Round 26: Skip the first 8 stitches, on the 9th stitch sc all the way around, skip the next 8 stitches and continue sc in the last 9 stitches. Form armholes this way.

Legs

  1. Leg 1
    • Round 1: Sc in first 5 stitches, skip 10 stitches, then sc in the remaining 4 stitches.
    • Round 2: Sc all around.
    • Round 3: Sc dec, sc in the next 3 stitches, repeat once more (8 stitches).
    • Round 4: Sc all around.
    • Round 5: Sc dec, sc in the next 2 stitches, repeat once more.
    • Round 6: Sc all around.
    • Round 7: Sc dec all the way around.
  2. Leg 2:
    • Start attaching yarn to the 5th stitch from the back.
    • Work similarly to Leg 1.

Arms

  1. Left Arm (or right, if right-handed)
    • Start from 2nd stitch on the back, join and ch 1, sc around (6 stitch), sc dec with armpit loops to prevent holes.
    • Round 2: Sc all around.
    • Round 3: Sc dec, sc in the next 2 stitches, repeat once (6 stitches).
    • Round 4: Sc all around.
    • Round 5: Sc dec all around.
  2. *Stuff as you go.
  3. Add roots at the bottom of the feet.

Leaves

  1. Leaf 1
    • Chain 7, sc in the second chain from the hook, sc all the way down.
  2. Leaf 2

  3. Leaf 3
    • Attach on the other side of the leg in 5th stitch from the back.

Final Assembly

  1. Stem
