Material
Yarn: 3 different colors of yarn. The video uses Savor from Ice Yarns, which is a four worsted weight acrylic yarn or a 10 ply if you are in Australia.
Crochet hook: The video uses a 5.5 millimeter crochet hook, but you can use whatever hook size goes along with the yarn you are using.
- Scissors
- Needle for sewing in your ends
- 3 stitch markers (preferably 2 of one color and 1 of a second color). You can also use paper clips or even just scraps of yarn if you don’t have stitch markers.
Optional materials:
- Cute numbered little presents (to help you count down for Christmas)
- Chocolate or sweet (to add to each stocking)
Making the Stockings (Repeat for a total of 24)
Round 1:
- Start by crocheting over the tail and chain 3 to form the beginning loop.
- Slide the hook in to create a u-shape underneath and slip stitch to form a ring, then chain 3. This counts as the first double crochet.
- Proceed to make another double crochet into the center of the ring.
- Chain 2, then make 2 double crochets into the center of the ring.
- Continue this process until you have six pairs of double crochets, each separated by a chain 2.
- Conclude with a slip stitch into the top of the initial chain 3 to join. Chain one and cut your yarn, pulling through and securing to finish round one.
For Round 2:
Insert your hook into any space away from the tail. Loop your new color of yarn over your hook, bring it through, and slip stitch with both strands to join, dropping your tail post-join.
- Chain 2 (counts as the first double crochet). Make 2 more double crochets in the same space.
- In the next space, create 3 treble crochets, chain 2, and then another 3 double crochets in the same space to form corners.
- Mark the center of these two corners with stitch markers.
- For each space around, perform 3 double crochets, chain 2, and another 3 double crochets, until you reach the starting corner. Slide stitches to make room if needed, complete 3 double crochets in the first space, chain 2, and join with a slip stitch to the original chain 3.
- Chain one, cut your yarn, pull through, and secure to conclude round two.
Round 3:
Start in the first corner space indicated by your stitch marker, creating 4 double crochets for each corner of the bottom of the stocking.
- Continue along the side with 3 double crochets in the next space.
- At each corner, make another set of 4 double crochets.
- Complete the round back at the starting space with 3 treble crochets.
Join to the top of chain 3 with a double crochet, then single crochet into each pair of stitches around, adapting at the heel and toe as follows:
- At the heel, single crochet into the first 2 pairs, chain 1, then single crochet in each pair to the center bend of the toe.
- Repeat a similar process for the toe section.
With 2 stitches left, single crochet and chain 1 to secure. Cut your yarn and snugly secure.
Assembling the Advent Calendar
- Repeat the steps above to craft a total of 24 stockings.
- Sew in the last tail of each stocking for a neat finish.
- Join all stockings together with a single crochet and a chain 6 between each for spacing.
- Create a hanging loop by chaining 15 and securing with a slip stitch into the starting stitch.
- Finalize with a chain 1 to secure your yarn, cut, and sew in the tail.
